*Remington Model 1871 Army pistol

Sold for:
1000 USD

Make: Remington, Model: 1871 Army, Condition: Very Good Plus, Barrel Length: 8", Caliber: .50 cal., Serial #: 5589, rolling block action. Approximately 6,000 M1871 Army pistols were manufactured with this example having a very bright shiny bore and nice rifling. The left grip is cartouched with inspectors' letters "C.R.S." (Curtis R. Stickney) inside a single line oval. The 1871 Army also referred to sometimes as the Army & Navy Model had improvements made upon it over the previous models by moving both the trigger and trigger guard forward. The front sight is a fixed blade instead of the earlier single bead with the lock mechanism also being redesigned. These were the last changes made to pistol line other than barrel length and caliber changes on later versions. The walnut grip and forend stand proud to the metal in most areas showing no visible sanding present with some light handling wear present most noticeable on the left side of a grip being a pressure indent type. Niter bluing is present on the trigger and one screw head with traces of case coloring and bluing present while remaining surfaces show a light and dark gray mottled patina throughout and some light tool marks present. The left side of the receiver/frame is marked "REMINGTON'S ILION. N.Y. U.S.A./PAT MAY 30 NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866". The assembly number 5125 is located on the left side of the upper tang and on the front of the walnut grip under the tang. Very nice example of an 1871 Army.
